  History:
As the ruins of Kotosh – most notably the "Crossed Hands" temple – stand to prove, the area was the site of an advanced culture antedating the appearance of pottery. The "skyscraper" burial mounds at Tantay are but one example of architecture deserving more detailed study by scholars.
 
  Places of Interest:
Suspended iron bridge – ruins of Kotosh – ruins of Huanuco Viejo – Cueva de las Lechuzas – La Bella Durmiente.

 
    The Cathedral and the churches of San Francisco , Cristo Rey , San Sebastian , La Merced and San Cristobal are well worth a visit.
