  History:
The Vicus, noted for their skills in pottery and metallurgy, once lived in this part of Peru . The hero of the War of the Pacific, admiral Miguel Grau Seminario was born in Piura in 1834.
 
  Places of Interest:
The villages of Catacaos and Simbila - the port of Paita - Vicus archaeological park – ruins of Alpata - Cerros de Amotape national park.

 
   
Deep-sea fishing enthusiasts will find Cabo Blanco an especially attractive resort – as did Ernest Hemingway in his time.
