  History:
Puno was the hub of the civilisation which flourished around Lake Titicaca and spawned the Tiahuanaco culture, whose classical period has been located in the 3rd century A.D.
 
  Places of Interest:
Lake Titicaca – chulpas (stone cylinder-shaped tombs) at Sillustani – colonial churches in Puno and Juli – islands of Uros, Taquile and Amantani – municipal museum – museum of popular art.
